  1. Great Value, Hoping it shoots as well as my other Green Mountain barrel 4 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Dec 2017

Bought this fluted sporter barrel for my 1999 Ruger 77/22 and was impressed on the value. Installation was easy and appreciated the barrel shims and instructions. Dropped right into the stock, no fitting necessary. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but if it shoots like the 10/22 Green Mountain barrel I have I will be very pleased (.400" 5-shot groups consistently with SK plus ammo).
The only knock on this barrel is that the exterior finish could be a little better, but then I didn't pay $250 for it either.

  2. Nice barrel, reasonable price 5 Star Review

77/22 SS fluted barrel bought as a replacement for original. Well made, installed without issue, excellent value. Substantial improvement in accuracy over original.

I HAVE USED SEVERAL GREEN MOUNTAIN OVER THE YEARS, THEY ARE THE BEST.

  4. 20" Fluted SS barrel for Ruger M77/22 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Feb 2016

Green Mountain produces a quality product and the performance of the barrel and it's fitment is clearly superior to the factory barrel. The factory barrel had over 50,000 rounds fired (by me) when it was replaced and it's performance throughout was good but inconsistent with groups often moving on target from shot string to shot string. I had to tap the GM barrel into the receiver with a rubber mallet as it fit significantly tighter than the factory one did. I fired the first 100 rds per the GM break in protocol at home without firing the rifle for accuracy. I fired only CCI Mini-Mag HP ammunition throughout as that will be the cartridge I use. I fired the second 100 rounds without cleaning the barrel. All rounds were fired from a factory 10 round magazine loaded by a rotary speed loader. Accuracy was initially just OK. After I passed 150 total rounds (50 rds dirty barrel) groups started to tighten. Groups were about 3/4 inch at 50 yards with the last 5 shots fired. (No flyers in the last group) I was shooting over the hood of the pickup with a bag rest. I anticipate that groups will continue to tighten up as the barrel breaks in. As an aside, I shimmed the bolt prior to starting the GM barrel break in as it had loosened over the years. I plan to shoot 1500-2000 additional rounds through this barrel in coming months with ground squirrel season.
