  1. Not a totally fair review 3 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Apr 2019

Review for GM 22 cal 20" tapered Brl.
My intent was to use HV ammo (1250 fps) for small game. However I found that Federal Automatch is 1200 fps so I tried it also. Did not test any quality "match/target" ammo. Grps varied with a few at 1/2" and 5/8" with many at 7/8"to 1 3/8". AutoMatch shot most 1/2" grps with Blazer coming in second.
The rifle is a "standard" 10/22 with no mods other than the brl. The scope is 4-12x with AO. I used a bipod and rear bag.
Average temp with wind variable at 5 mph with occasional gusts to 10.
The target was set at 50 yds. It has 1" squares and 1/2" dots.
I rated the brl as "fair" and that the test was not fair either. 1) the wind was quite high. 2) most master shooters I know shoot an entire box of ammo and only evaluate the last half. Reason? The first shots are using the wax from the previous ammo and should not be considered a candidate for evaluation. I just shot 4 groups and moved on to the next ammo type. Probably the next group was still using the wax from the previous ammo type!
At this point I have no reason to shoot "real" match/target ammo with a "true" evaluation so I'll never know how good the brl is.

  2. much better then a stock 10/22 barrel 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Sep 2018

5 stars for the price, 4+ stars for the accuracy. Much more accurate then the stock barrel. 50 yards is one ragged hole, 100 yards is 1 in to 1 1/2 in. More accurate then me.

  3. Number10 5 Star Review

Very happy with the price, and quality. The results I have experienced with this barrel are way above my expectation. During my first 10 rounds 4 went in the same hole, and the 10/22 was not even on a bench! Again beyond my expectation, I have been shooting 22’s for nearly 47 yrs. Simply stated you have a great product.

  4. Break-in procedure extreme. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 28th May 2018

Seems like a great product, but the break-in procedure seems crazy. They say to break in the barrel, fire 5 shots, then clean it, fire another 5 shots for a total of 30, cleaning it every 5 shots. Then switch to 10 shots, clean it, for a total of 70 shots, cleaning it every 10 shots, for a grand total of 100 shots. The 10/22 manual says to clean it from the breach side. To do that you must take the gun apart. Using a cleaning rod you must take the barrel off. Seems very radically extreme to have to clean it by taking the gun all apart between every 5 & 10 shot interval. As far as I know this is their recommended break-in procedure for all of their barrels. You would think with a new barrel this procedure, if it is that critical, would have been done already before it reaches the customer.

  5. Great Product 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Jan 2018

Used this barrel as a replacement for an older barrel that had damage to the breech from firing pin strikes due to dry firing. The Green Mountain barrel dropped right in to the receiver and required very little fitting to the stock. I would recommend this to anyone looking to improve the performance of a 10/22.
