Perhaps the barrel that came with your competitive rifle is not so competitive anymore. Oftentimes older rifles come with barrels that have long-term wear and low twist rates.

When you're competitively shooting over 60 rounds of powerful ammo while lying on the ground, you want a barrel with some substance. The ideal barrels for black powder cartridge shooting are a minimum of 30" long and round, octagonal or half & half.

All Green Mountain custom barrels for black powder cartridge shooting are between 32" and 35" long and are classic tapered octagonal or straight octagonal. These rifle barrels also feature 19th century Winchester barrel profiles, stress relieved, chrome-moly and high quality 4140 steel, air gauging, 1" receiver stubs, 1:18 twist rates and buttoned rifling.
