  1. She's a Shooter! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Sep 2020

My friend and I had an idea to build a highly accurate straight pull bolt rifle. To test some of our theories, we decided to build a straight pull AR bolt rifle first. Ordering the GM-B4 barrel, and slotting a DPMS slick side AR-15 upper, was the easiest way to accomplish this build. Upon receipt of the GM-B4 barrel we installed it in the slotted upper and started testing. After completing so initial load development with some 77gr Nosler Combined Competition bullets I had bought years ago, on the cheap, we had our baseline accuracy to compare our accuracy modifications to. He accuracy baseline of this barrel, installed in a AR-upper 1/2 MOA. That's right, the GM-B4 barrel, with absolutely "NO modifications," installed in a DPMS slick side upper (which was a take off from an LE officer that wanted an upper with forward assist and dust cover), is turning out 1/2 MOA, consistently. The load development still isn't complete as I am getting 35fps extreme spread over 10 rounds, but she loves 77gr Nosler CC, and 73gr Hornady ELD-M bullets seated to make mag length. Now, the question is, can we mod the barrel to make it a 1/4 MOA shooter? Green Mountain, I love your barrels!

  2. Loving it! 5 Star Review

I purchased this barrel for a straight pull bolt project my friend and I wanted to try. Once the barrel arrived, we installed it and began testing ammo. It showed promise right off, shooting loads developed for other rifles with good accuracy. I've started load development for 77gr Nosler CC BTHP bullets as well as Hornady 68gr BTHPs. The first loads with 77gr shot right at 1 MOA at 100 yards. The 68gr loads are shooting about 0.5 MOA, and that was with every round being a different charge load, working up from 23gr to 24.3gr. I'm very excited to see what she will do once she has been fluted, had a muzzle device added, and full load development completed. I'm expecting sub 0.5 MOA, out of a $115 barrel. Thank you Green Mountain Barrels, and keep up the good work.

  3. Tack Driver 5 Star Review

This is my 3rd barrel from Green mountain and it is outstanding. I ordered a 556. Wilde chambered gunsmith special and all I can say is it really shoots well. I use it as a target rifle side charging no gas. 5 of my first 6 targets were under 1 inch MOA this is a fresh barrel and shot excellent from the get go.

  4. Took some time to get range time 5 Star Review

Put this together with no gas port. Single shot.
Shows great promise with factory 55 gr.
62 gr handloads showed MOA. Handload 75gr shows close to MOA. Now to turn for a gas block.

  5. Great Barrel for a Great Price! 5 Star Review

A friend and I just picked up a couple of these barrels and we are both very impressed with the fit and finish of these barrels. We have not had a chance to put any rounds down them yet, but based on previous reviews we are very confident they will be great performers. Now if they only made these barrels in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor.....Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Co. are you guys listening? Look forward to doing business with Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Co. in the future.
