While it is likely to be months before this barrel is mounted on my 1874 Shiloh I did look it over before I sent off to the gunsmith. The finish of the octagon was very good. I check the bore at both ends for concentricity and it was within .002-.003" total. I also measured the bore with gage pins and it is a bit tight of the .438" that is advertised at .4363". I slugged the bore and it checked .4455". That leaves a groove depth of .0046". The barrel as I received it was 34 1/4" and weighed 8.1 lbs.
I am pleased with the barrel as I received it, but the proof will be in how it shoots and that I will not likely know until next year. I chose Green Mountain because of their reputation and for the 17-twist. Time will tell if I chose wisely.
